The 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine actively uses the latest Czech RM-70 4D MLRS

The Armed Forces of Ukraine actively use the Czech RM-70 4D multiple rocket launcher system by Excalibur Army. The General Staff of Ukraine shared a relevant video with the work of units of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade. You can see there a common operation of the RM-70 4D at the positions of the russian army.

Defense Express notes that the first video-appearance of the regular RM-70, which is a variant of the Soviet Grad with a transfer to the Tatra chassis and additional charging system, was back in May. And the first information about receiving these systems by Ukraine was in April.

At the same time, receiving a modernized version of the RM-70 4D means that these are the new machines that were made to the order of Ukraine, or ordered by the Czech government and transferred as military aid. At least there is no information about the presence of these MLRS in service. In particular, Greece considered the option of upgrading the RM-70 to the RM-70 4D version only in 2021, and Indonesia only a year ago agreed on the deployment of their joint production.

But the RM-70 4D is equipped with a modern digital fire control system, which allows for the automation of targeting due to a ballistic computer and a satellite and inertial navigation system. However the published video recorded an episode using an optical sight.

This may indicate a simpler version of the RM-70, only with the transfer of the artillery unit to a new chassis, or, for various reasons, the desire of the calculation to duplicate the work of the digital system.
