Ukrainian border guards from the Phoenix unit have carried out a successful strike against russian drone forces in Donetsk region, targeting enemy positions near the city of Kostyantynivka. According to the unit, the operation resulted in the destruction of russian drone command post, several FPV ambush sites, and two Mavic-type unmanned aerial vehicles.

The strike is described by the unit as hitting a "truly valuable" target, given the growing importance of drone warfare along the front line. The destroyed drone command post had been used by russian forces to coordinate operations involving FPV drones, a category of loitering munitions frequently deployed for precision strikes and reconnaissance.

The operation took place in a high-intensity combat zone in the Donetsk direction, where both sides rely heavily on UAVs for tactical advantages. Russian FPV drones, in particular, are often used in ambush scenarios, targeting Ukrainian vehicles, trenches, or command posts. Neutralizing these setups is critical to improving mobility and reducing Ukrainian casualties.

Alongside striking the command infrastructure, the Phoenix unit reported success in a direct aerial engagement. Two russian-operated Mavic drones, widely used for reconnaissance and targeting, were downed in what the unit described as an "air duel". This suggests active UAV-on-UAV engagements, reflecting the increasingly dynamic nature of drone warfare.

The FPV ambush sites identified and destroyed during the operation were likely concealed positions prepared to launch suicide drones against Ukrainian troops or equipment. By proactively locating and disabling these launch points, Ukrainian forces can reduce immediate battlefield threats and disrupt future attacks.

As Defense Express previously reported, on the night of August 28, a special forces unit from the Department of Active Operations of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine conducted a combat operation in the northern Black Sea region. The group landed on the Tendra Spit, a narrow strip of land under temporary russian occupation, and carried out a targeted strike against enemy positions.

Ukrainian operatives neutralized military presence on the spit, including russian personnel, Zont electronic warfare system and Rosa radar station. Ukrainian forces raised a national flag over the site following the operation. No casualties were reported on the Ukrainian side.
