The United States "hinted" to Germany that it is giving the "green light" to the supply of main battle tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine - this information is reported by the German publication FAZ.
In particular, according to the information that the publication received from "two sources with access to confidential information", the security adviser to the US president, Jake Sullivan, allegedly informed the foreign policy adviser of the German chancellor, Jens Plötner, that the US would agree to the supply of Ukraine with German tanks back in October.

"The source said that Sullivan told Plötner on the phone that the US would be happy if Germany supplied the Leopard 2, but that it would have to do it on its own initiative. The USA is not asking Germany to make such supplies," the German publication reported.
First of all, in the context of this information, the following comes to mind - probably, Sullivan's call could be a kind of "answer" to Scholz's statements that Germany will not supply tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine until the appropriate decision is made by the United States of America regarding their Abrams.
At the same time, for example, according to Gustav Gressel from the European Council on International Relations, there are quite logical arguments in favor of Germany opening this "Pandora's box" with tanks, because, for example, Poland could easily maintain these tanks at the moment. In contrast, currently there is no base for maintenance of Abrams tanks near the borders of Ukraine.
