This is the second time in the last 10 days that Russian military manpower casualties go over 1,000, the total losses are measured in whole regiments

Latest daily report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine states record-breaking numbers of losses inflicted on the Russian army. As we highlighted earlier, approximately 1,380 personnel, 55 tanks, and 120 pieces of other armored equipment were destroyed by Ukrainians in the past 24 hours.

Casualties exceeding 1,000 were recorded only a few times thus far: last time on October 13th, and also on July 20th. Such large numbers are due to the attempts of Russian command to advance on Avdiivka, eastern Ukraine, starting October 10th.

Ukrainian GenStaff detailed that effective defense in this operational axis resulted in, verbatim: "almost 900 occupiers dead and wounded, almost 50 tanks destroyed and damaged, and more than 100 units of enemy armored equipment."

Taking into account that on top of that, the russian forces launched an offensive on the Lyman-Kupiansk front as well, and tried to start a counterattack near Klishchiivka and a few other locations, here is the summed-up outcome of the Russian offensive so far:

  • Personnel: 8,980
  • Tanks: 218
  • Armored fighting vehicles: 428
  • Artillery guns and MLRS: 313

If we break this down into standard "sets" of a regiment-level unit, the picture looks like this: personnel- and armor-wise, it mounts up to four fully staffed and equipped motor rifle (mechanized) regiments, 2,100 manpower and 102 IFVs, supported by 31 tanks each.

The rest of 94 tanks are just enough to equip an additional tank regiment.

In other words, the Russian armed forces have lost an equivalent of four mechanized and one tank regiments – only in one or two operational axes. In fact, it as well shows how much pressure Ukrainian units holding there are experiencing.

As the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces noted after his visit to these most contested operational directions – Avdiivka and Kupiansk: "There are no simple segments of the front at war. Only those where it's more difficult."
