And why applying these complexes reminded Ukraine’s servicemen of “sniper work”

At the beginning of the russian army's invasion of Ukraine, France and Italy supplied a number of Milan-type anti-tank missile systems to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

For the first time, it became known about the appearance of the Milan ATGMs in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in April 2022. But until now, details about the appliance of such 1970s system in the battles against the russian invaders were extremely scarce. ArmyInform undertook to close this gap in their publication.

To begin with, it should be noted here that the Milan ATGM weighs 45 kg, and a minimum of 2 soldiers are required to carry the launcher and + missiles.

The process of installing the anti-aircraft missile at the position takes 5 minutes, the flight range is up to 2000 meters, the duration of the missile's flight is 13 seconds. The last parameter is important, because all this time the operator has to guide the missile to the target and missile’s two-second-smoke plays an unmasking role.

Accordingly, the position for launching the Milan ATGM should be arranged in such a way as to avoid being hit by enemy counter-strike. Therefore, Ukraine’s soldiers have an association that the work of such complexes resembles "sniper’s work".

As it turned out, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine used the Milan ATGM during the battles against russian invaders in the Chernihiv and Sumy Oblasts and rated "Milan" as an effective complex, which the Russian occupiers fear in every sense.
