The Ukrainian solution for protecting armored vehicles from drones, informally known as the "hood," has already proven its effectiveness in combat conditions. russia has now presented a second patent for a similar development

russian engineers have unveiled a new patent for a drone-protection structure intended for installation on armored vehicles. This is already the second such patent, and it almost completely copies the Ukrainian design known as the "hood," named for its shape and folding mechanism. The Ukrainian solution has demonstrated real effectiveness and has been copied not only in russia, but also in China and Syria.

The new patent was reported by armored vehicle researcher Andrii Tarasenko (btvt.info), who published drawings of the latest russian "development." According to him, compared with the Ukrainian solution, the russian "hood" described in the new patent has one serious drawback. It is mounted not on the turret, but directly on the hull side. This configuration prevents turret rotation and effectively makes aimed fire impossible.

In the drawings, the "hood" is shown mounted on a BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle. The patent states that the utility model is designed to protect and camouflage amphibious combat vehicles while crossing water obstacles.

"The proposed utility model helps reduce the probability of detection of amphibious combat vehicles in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum during the crossing of water obstacles. It also reduces the damaging effect of FPV drones and shaped-charge munitions dropped from unmanned aerial vehicles," the patent text states.

It should be recalled that an earlier patent for a similar "hood," shown in the upper image, became public in russia last summer. At the time, the developers claimed it was 1.5 times more effective than other protective structures.

Moreover, the Ukrainian "hood" was later copied in China. There, the patent was registered by Dragon Shield Intelligence Equipment, and the product was named Dragon Shield. The Chinese version features a more complex design with electric motors, which simplifies operation for the vehicle crew.

The Ukrainian "hood" has also been fully copied in Syria. The original post by Andrii Tarasenko can be found here.
