A new heavy unmanned aerial system by Pyka is set to make its first flight next year

The American company Pyka, which is a manufacturer of Pelican agricultural drones, has decided to enter the defense technology market by introducing the long-range, heavy-lift unmanned aerial system. This is the company's first development, which is designed primarily for military, rather than civilian, tasks.

According to The Defense Post, the main purpose of the drone is to deliver critical supplies into austere or contested environments. If necessary, this drone can be equipped with equipment to perform reconnaissance missions, as well as operate as a mothership.

It is noted that a feature of this drone is a precision airdrop system that can release payloads within 150 feet (46 meters) of the target.

The ferry range of the DropShip drone is over 3,500 miles (5,633 kilometers), the maximum payload is up to 550 pounds (249 kilograms), while the exact mass of cargo the drone can carry over the maximum distance is not disclosed.

The company also emphasizes that the DropShip platform can be deployed in less than an hour, while just one operator can control the dron.

As Defense Express reported earlier, UAV warfare pushed U.S. to spend billions on Air-Defense Protection. We also wrote, that anti-aircraft drones from Ukraine may become one of solutions for U.S. to be protected against UAVs.
