Last year, russian defense industry presented a robotic BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle, now reveals the development of this project, although the technology hasn't been tested in actual combat yet

Rostec announced it had created a new computer appliance branded Prometey (Prometheus), russian state media report quoting the corporation's Industrial Director of the Complex of Conventional Weapons, Ammunition, and Special Chemistry Bekhan Ozdoev.

The newly developed appliance is said to "transform any IFV, APC or a tank into a remotely controlled robotized vehicle," Ozdoev said.

So far, there is this much known about this appliance: its integration requires no changes to the design or the internal systems of the vehicle, all the units and crew compartments remain in their standard places while the armored vehicle moves on its own, operated by a remote control point. He adds, in combination with remotely controlled weapon systems, the Prometey will turn armored vehicles into "real-life terminators."

It seems like direct distant operation is currently the only function this novelty can offer. In the future, Prometey-equipped armor will be capable of moving between the designated points to approach the target and determine the best route considering the obstacles along the way, Ozdoev promises.

The official also points out that Prometey is the further development of another project by Rostec, more precisely by the Signal research institute. The project is called Udar, it aims to create a robotized BMP-3; we covered it in one of our earlier articles.

Udar robotization kit demonstration in 2015:

As a reminder, russians presented a prototype of their "robotized" BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle last year at the Armiya-2022 military forum. Basically, it was an ordinary BMP-3 equipped with a special remote control kit. The operator used a joystick to pilot both the chassis and the armament.

In both cases, the manufacturers stressed, the "robotization" technologies provide that the vehicles integrated with either Prometey or Udar systems could be used in uncrewed or manned variants alike.
