ASELSAN’s artillery weapon modernization solutions integrate indigenously developed inertial navigation systems, muzzle velocity radars, fire control computers, radios and associated hardware such as servo drivers for providing high accuracy in gun laying, automatic ballistic calculation and high first hit probability.
ASELSAN’s fire control systems provide several benefits to the user; fire support planning, target prioritization and coordination whereby the user selects specific targets or executes fire mission commands automatically without human intervention.
Additionally, fast ballistic computation at the gun level, allows the user to perform battery functions by a single gun. These ballistic calculations incorporate sensitive information such as weather and muzzle velocity inputs to increase the effectiveness of the artillery.

Digitization of the battlefield allows swift communication and data transfer which is critical to the fire support missions. As such ASELSAN utilizes its secure software defined radios to transfer voice and data in its fire control systems. Furthermore, the data communication allows tactical situational awareness of the artillery units with digital maps showing unit and target information. In tandem with the upgrade options for the artillery, an important capability for the platforms is the data connection to fire direction centers and higher echelons of the command structure.

In addition to digitization of communication and data transfer, ASELSAN serves valuable capabilities to the tactical and technical fire direction units in the command and control structure.
Firstly, ASELSAN’s Fire Support Automation System (AFSAS) integrates all fire support units: weapon systems, support systems, sensor systems, forward observer systems and fire direction systems clustering them under a single tactical artillery command and control and fire direction system.
Secondly, the system adds on the capability to conduct fire missions; receiving and processing fire orders and requests. It maintains a tactical picture of the field displayed on a digital map with Digital Terrain Elevation Data (DTED) allowing levels of command structure to maintain situational awareness while planning current and future fire missions.
AFSAS is a reconfigurable system based on tactical and operational requirements. This feature gives flexibility to attach or detach fire support elements and battalions to or from the structure as the command decides. Information flow within the system could be layered according to need to know basis as required by the command structure.
With AFSAS, ASELSAN automates planning, coordinating, controlling and execution of fire support in a digital environment, integrates fire support units and provides most effective, efficient and timely fire support as required by the corps.
As a result of the modularity and configurability, ASELSAN can provide fire control and C4I solutions for different types of legacy howitzers from different origins such as D-30 122 mm, M109 155mm or smaller 105mm caliber howitzers.
