The Msta-B howitzer, often used to shell Ukrainian cities, was obliterated in its cover position

On the Lyman axis, Ukrainian defenders from the Signum Battalion of the 53rd Mechanized Brigade have struck another blow against russian artillery. A skilled drone pilot used an FPV drone to precisely destroy russian Msta-B towed howitzer, hidden in a concealed position.

The footage of the strike was published on August 29 via the Battalion's official channel, demonstrating the growing effectiveness of Ukraine's strike drone units. The video shows the drone's direct hit, followed by a powerful detonation that engulfed the enemy artillery piece.

The Msta-B is a 152 mm Soviet-designed towed howitzer, widely employed by russian forces for both frontline engagements and long-range bombardments of Ukrainian positions and civilian infrastructure. Despite its age, it remains one of the most common artillery systems in russia's arsenal, particularly due to its ability to fire both conventional and modern ammunition types.

According to the Signum Battalion, the destruction of this weapon is not only a tactical victory but also a symbolic one, "After the hit, it flared up as if the enemy had staged a festive fireworks show. For understanding: the Msta-B is a system used daily to shell our positions and peaceful cities. But this time, its work ended forever."

The Ukrainian military continues to rely heavily on FPV drones as an asymmetric tool against russia's artillery advantage. Relatively inexpensive and quick to produce, these drones allow precision strikes on high-value targets such as artillery pieces, armored vehicles, and ammunition depots, often hidden deep in defensive positions.

As Defense Express previously reported, Ukrainian defenders continue to inflict painful losses on russian heavy weapons. This time, operators of the 68th Separate Jaeger Brigade used drones to eliminate one of the enemy's most destructive multiple rocket launchers, the TOS-1A Solntsepyok system.

The strike took place while russian system was on the move, making the operation even more remarkable. Usually, such vehicles are heavily guarded and kept at a distance from the front line, but precise drone operators managed to identify and hit the target.
