The 44th Artillery Brigade destroyed two Msta-B and one Giatsint-B guns, dealing a heavy blow to russian long-range firepower in the south

Soldiers of Ukraine's 44th Artillery Brigade successfully destroyed three of the russian army's long-range artillery pieces and a transport vehicle in a recent precision operation. The South Operational Command released footage of the strike on July 28, showcasing the Ukrainian gunners' effectiveness on the front line.

The targeted russian artillery included one 2A36 Giatsint-B and two 2A65 Msta-B howitzers, both of which are capable of delivering long-range fire against Ukrainian positions. These Soviet-era systems have been a persistent threat, often used by russian forces to shell Ukrainian defensive lines and civilian infrastructure from a distance.

The strike was conducted using a combination of drones and traditional artillery fire. Ukrainian forces first identified the enemy systems using aerial reconnaissance, then followed up with precise strikes that rendered all three guns inoperable and eliminated at least one russian transport vehicle at the scene.

This dual-method attack reflects Ukraine's growing ability to integrate modern drone intelligence with conventional artillery tactics, a critical capability in countering russian artillery dominance. The destruction of enemy guns at long range limits the invaders' ability to suppress Ukrainian positions and offers much-needed relief to troops under fire.

"The front line is hell, scorching sun and even hotter artillery duels. Our artillery crews of the 44th Brigade tirelessly destroy enemy equipment, positions, and personnel," reads the report.

The footage also underscores the risks and intensity Ukrainian gunners face in daily combat.

The 2A36 and 2A65 systems destroyed in this strike are no small targets. The Giatsint-B system boasts a 152 mm caliber and a maximum firing range of 28–33 kilometers. The Msta-B howitzer, also 152 mm, is a key component of russian divisional artillery. Taking out three such pieces in a single operation represents a significant tactical win.

As Defense Express previously reported, one of the combat crews operating German-made Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun under the Ukrainian Ground Forces has opened up about their work, demonstrating how they effectively destroy russian Shahed kamikaze drones. The footage was shared by the Air Force Command, highlighting a crucial yet often unseen part of the country's layered air defense.
