Assembly of the first fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet for the German Air Force has been completed in the U.S. Now, it only needs the final touches, including painting and the application of the stealth coating.
Lockheed Martin released a video showing the aircraft being rolled out of the factory and transported to the site where the final stages of work will take place. This brings it one step closer to enhancing the capabilities of the Luftwaffe.

From Defense Express we would like to note that the main manufacturing work on this aircraft, designated MG-01, began in late 2024. The completion of the final assembly stage was announced in March 2026.
Furthermore, the German F-35s could become a contentious political issue, given that the FCAS sixth-generation fighter jet project collapsed earlier this year due to disagreements with France, which ultimately led to the demise of the joint MGCS tank project as well. Therefore, given France's calls to buy European alternatives to American weapons and military equipment, Germany may once again face criticism.

It should be noted that the F-35As are intended to replace the Panavia Tornado bombers in the German arsenal as carriers of U.S. tactical nuclear weapons. In other words, they will play a role in NATO's deterrence strategy toward russia in Europe. That is why a U.S.-made fighter jet was the only logical option, rather than European alternatives, which lack the necessary certification.
At the same time, Germany will also use its fifth-generation aircraft for conventional strike missions, equipping them with JSM cruise missiles for long-range attacks. There are also reports of their potential use to suppress and destroy enemy air defense systems.

In total, Germany is set to receive 35 F-35A aircraft, which were ordered back in 2022. The first of these will be ready in 2026, but, in accordance with standard procedure, they will remain in the U.S. for the training of Luftwaffe personnel.
At the same time, direct deliveries to the German Air Force will begin in the second half of 2027 and continue through 2029. Full operational readiness is planned to be achieved in 2030Germany is also actively investing in its Eurofighter Typhoons, the latest version of which has already taken to the skies with the Luftwaffe.
