U.S.-Made Bullfrog Anti-Drone System Gains Popularity as Production Ramps Up, Despite No Ukraine Tests

Bullfrog is an autonomous anti-drone system based on a machine gun that can shoot down drones weighing up to 600 kg

American defense company Allen Control Systems (ACS) plans to expand its production facilities in Austin, Texas, due to strong demand for its Bullfrog anti-drone system. The plan is to triple their size to 5,295 square meters.

This will enable the company to ramp up small-scale production of Bullfrog systems and support research, development, and testing efforts.

This involves creating new engineering and technical positions to support U.S. efforts in developing cost-effective drone countermeasures that are significantly cheaper than current systems, according to the Defense Post.

Details on how the expansion will boost Bullfrog system production, and the current production rate, have not been disclosed. At the same time, despite having no operational experience in Ukraine, Bullfrog is already being ordered both in the U.S. and abroad.

In August, it became known that an undisclosed number of Bullfrog systems had been purchased by the U.S. Special Operations Command (U.S. SOCOM) for installation on various mobile platforms, including boats. Plans were also announced to integrate the systems into Abrams main battle tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

In November, it was announced that agreements for the supply of Bullfrog had been concluded with South Korea and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, he company signed agreements with Romania for joint production of Bullfrog and opened regional offices in Asia and Europe.

The Bullfrog system is a relatively new development that was presented and tested in 2024. It is an automated turret that can be equipped with M240, M2, M230, or M134 machine guns, as well as laser systems, depending on customer requirements.

The turret's key feature is its use of artificial intelligence, enabling the operator to simply give the command to fire while detection, tracking, identification, and targeting occur automatically. Equipped with a passive detection system, it cannot be tracked by enemy electronic intelligence means.
