Ukraine is expecting additional deliveries of Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets from France, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Ukrainian officials say the aircraft will significantly strengthen the country's air defense and combat aviation capabilities amid continued large-scale missile and drone attacks.
In a statement, the Ministry emphasized that Mirage 2000-5 aircraft will enhance Ukraine's ability to intercept cruise missiles and strike drones, including Shahed-type loitering munitions used extensively by russian forces. The reinforcement comes as air defense remains one of Kyiv's highest operational priorities.

The Mirage 2000 is a multirole fourth-generation fighter equipped with digital avionics, advanced radar systems, and electronic warfare suites. Ukrainian officials describe the aircraft being supplied as deeply modernized platforms approaching a 4++ generation standard, a level they say exceeds that of the Soviet-era MiG-29 jets currently in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the Ministry, the upgraded Mirage variants offer improved maneuverability, lighter airframes, and enhanced onboard systems. They are capable of operating at altitudes of up to 18 kilometers, expanding the operational envelope for interception missions and air patrols.

The aircraft are also equipped with powerful radar systems and precision-guided weaponry, including Magic-2 air-to-air missiles. These capabilities are expected to improve detection and engagement of low-visibility cruise missiles, Shahed drones, and other aerial threats, as well as operational-tactical reconnaissance UAVs.
In addition to air defense tasks, the Mirage 2000 jet's weapons pylons are compatible with NATO-standard munitions. This allows integration of long-range strike weapons such as Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles and AASM Hammer guided bombs, providing Ukraine with greater flexibility in both defensive and offensive air operations.
The Ministry of Defense underscored that strengthening the fighter fleet is critical to countering what it described as ongoing russian air terror. With mass missile and drone barrages continuing to target infrastructure and cities, the arrival of additional Mirage 2000-5 aircraft could play a key role in reinforcing Ukraine's layered air defense system and expanding its combat aviation capabilities.
