Ukraine expects issue of its membership to be included in NATO 2030 strategy

Ukraine expects that the issue of its membership will be included in the NATO 2030 strategy which will determine the future of the Alliance for the next ten years.

"Ukraine expects that NATO 2030 strategy, which will determine the future of the Alliance for the next ten years, will include the issue of Ukraine's membership. In particular, in the form of a real, not vague prospect of obtaining a concrete step-by-step action plan. And we are ready to work fruitfully on this, starting with the activity of the Parliament," Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk said at the Special edition of Kyiv Security Forum.

The Deputy Speaker stressed that "the strongest majority that currently exists in the Parliament is the pro-European majority, which includes various factions."

Olena Kondratiuk also called on Donald Tusk and all European colleagues "to have a clearer and more categorical stance on Ukraine's non-alternative membership in the European Union and NATO which are enshrined in the Constitution of Ukraine."

"Ukrainians no longer need to prove to anyone their right to Euro-Atlantic integration. We need an honest and frank conversation with European colleagues, we need joint and decisive steps in tackling global challenges, in strengthening our equal partnership, in strengthening security and cooperation throughout Europe," the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized.

Olena Kondratiuk also noted that she shared the need to create a new plan for Eastern Europe, a key element of which should be Ukraine's full membership in the European Union and NATO.

According to the Deputy Speaker, the Verkhovna Rada should play a decisive role in these strategic processes, should formulate a strategy and exercise proper parliamentary control over the processes of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine as the Parliament has the powers to determine the principles of Ukraine’s domestic and foreign policy.
