Ukraine has received its first unmanned interceptor, Alexa Spatium, designed primarily to destroy russian jet-powered Shahed-type attack drones

Ukrainian forces have received the country's first unmanned interceptor designed to counter russian jet-powered Shahed-type attack drones, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense. The system, called Alexa Spatium, has been developed to strengthen Ukraine's ability to engage increasingly fast russian one-way attack UAVs.

According to the ministry, the interceptor's main advantages are its high maximum speed, substantial operating altitude, and dynamic maneuverability. These characteristics are intended to allow the drone to rapidly close the distance with an aerial target and improve the precision of interception.

The Alexa Spatium system measures approximately 1.5 by 1.7 meters and is built from lightweight yet durable composite materials. The construction is designed to withstand aggressive maneuvers while maintaining control, an important feature for an interceptor that must rapidly change direction during an engagement.

The drone is launched from a mobile catapult, allowing it to be deployed without a conventional runway. This gives the system greater flexibility and potentially enables interception teams to operate from different locations depending on the direction and scale of an incoming attack.

The interceptor has primarily been designed to target russian Geran-3, Geran-4 and Geran-5 attack drones, as well as Shahed-131 UAVs. These systems represent part of russia's evolving family of long-range one-way attack drones, which have become a major component of its strikes against Ukrainian territory.

The Ministry of Defense also said Alexa Spatium is not limited to aerial targets. The platform can reportedly be used against ground and surface targets, while its intended applications also include reconnaissance drones, helicopters and other individual targets.
