​UK Defense Intelligence: British Counter-UAS Unit Downs Drone in Iraqi Airspace as RAF Surpasses 230 Defensive Flight Hours and RFA Lyme Bay Ship Moves to High Readiness

The UK reported that a ground-based counter-drone unit intercepted a UAV heading toward Coalition forces while RAF aircraft continued defensive patrols and the landing ship RFA Lyme Bay ship was placed on heightened readiness

Overnight, a ground-based British Counter-Unamanned Aerial Systems unit took out a drone in Iraqi airspace which was heading towards Coalition forces, according to UK Defense Intelligence.

British pilots have now completed more than 230 flying hours on defensive operations protecting British people, bases and partners in the region.

The UK have taken the decision to bring RFA Lyme Bay, a landing ship with humanitarian and medical capabilities, to heightened readiness as a precaution should she be needed to assist in maritime tasks in the Eastern Mediterranean.

As Defense Express previously reported, British Typhoon fighters shot down an unmanned aerial system over Jordan and intercepted another drone heading toward Bahrain while the UK reinforced regional defenses with additional personnel and helicopters.
