That is according to Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukrinform reports citing Military Media Center.
As the Commander states, Ukraine’s forces are now controlling a small part of Bakhmut, but its defense is very important, as this allows them to enter the city immediately as the situation changes.

"We continue advancing on the flanks in the suburbs of Bakhmut and are actually close to tactically encircling the city. Thanks to this, we will be able to control all high-rise buildings seized by the enemy and gradually decimate them. This deprives the enemy of control over the approaches to the city and gives us certain tactical benefits," Oleksandr Syrskyi noted.
In his words, the actions of the Ukrainian military and the procedure for destroying the enemy were discussed in detail with the commanders.
"The situation is challenging but controlled," the Commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces stressed.
Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi also posted on his Telegram on Sunday that he had visited frontline positions near the city of Bakhmut, where he thanked troops defending the area.
In his post, Oleksandr Syrskyi also said Ukrainian forces were continuing their advance along the flanks of the ruined city.
