russian occupiers made another sample of improvised weapons that looks rather specific

russian invaders installed a certain number of 72-mm 2A28 Gromsmoothbore cannons from the BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to the carriages. Now, this weapon will work in the field. Relevant footage has already appeared on social media. So it is possible to see the process of test firing at least of two improvised artillery guns.

The time and place of action, as well as the effectiveness of these test firings, remain unknown. However, it is obvious that occupiers started the production of such improvised weapons in order locally cover the losses in artillery during the battles against the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

It should be noted that the 73-mm 2A28 smoothbore cannon has a sighting range of up to 1.3 kilometers, a maximum range of 4.4 kilometers. The rate of fire is 6-8 rounds per minute, as well as the gun weight is 113 kilograms.

A similar practice of installing cannons from armored vehicles was used by the troops of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria. Now russian invaders are forced to copy the practices of those they used to mock.

We can assume that the occupiers' plan was to install the cannons from BMP-1 on the carriages to fill a niche that usually belongs to mortars or Nona-K towed mortars. But such a makeshift artillery system will have a clearly worse range than standard models.

At the same time, we can also assume that russian invaders may have certain problems with the restoration of the decommissioned BMP-1.

But it is also possible that russians prefer to modernize these infantry fighting vehicles according to the Basurmanin BMP-1AM standard. This is why they have some "extra" guns and turrets for the BMP-1.
