An illustrative episode revealing both the tactic of russian tank crews and the countermeasures applied by Ukrainian anti-tank teams

Official social media account of the Ukrainian Land Forces has published a video provided by the soldiers of the 66th Mechanized Brigade deployed in the Lyman operational axis, eastern Ukraine.

It is one of the key axes of tank warfare where russians actively send their tanks and so also lose them a lot: the company of soldiers who filmed this footage claim to have destroyed 25 russian main battle tanks in the last four days.

In the video, in particular, we can witness the tactic adopted by the russian tank units: a T-90 approaches the firing spot at maximum speed but gets spotted by a camera drone. Thanks to that, the Ukrainian anti-tank troops managed to quickly take position for repelling.

As the tank was swiftly moving toward the firing spot, it was already shooting while on the move but once it reached the designated location, stopped completely.

Quite possibly, it was because the crew noticed Ukrainian anti-tank missiles incoming, since we can see the first missile went past the target and landed near the T-90. Smoke screen was deployed promptly. However, despite the threat remaining, the T-90 continued to shoot and maneuver.

A closer look:

Worth noting, the lack of speedy reverse gear on former Soviet and russian tanks provides for inability to maneuver fast enough. Consequently, the T-90 kept "fidgeting" around the same place while shooting and exposing the sides to further strikes during these movements.

The result was quite expectable: one of sides was finally hit by an anti-tank weapon, resulting in ignition of ammunition inside. The tank was destroyed together with the crew.
