Russian special services plotted to destabilize the situation in Odesa with mass riots and violent provocations on the anniversary of May 2 tragedy

On May 1st, Ukrainian police together with the State Bureau of Investigation detained a group of saboteurs and collaborators who planned to organize riots in Odesa the next day. The initial report came from the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

The saboteurs had explosive material, weapons and instructions on how to prepare the provocation from their russian command.

In the latest report from the State Bureau of Investigation, there are some new details revealed. As follows, twelve people are charged for preparations of a sabotage, riots and insurgency in Odesa planned for May 2nd. Citizens of Ukraine are in charge of treason and are currently under investigation.

According to the Bureau, they had a variety of weapons (see video below) and explosives. "A large number" of small arms, grenades, pistols and ammunition to them were found, as well as communist symbols. All this arsenal, literally and figuratively, was planned to be used for pro-russian provocations in the southern city of Odesa.

The following video is provided by the State Bureau of Investigation and shows the mentioned evidence belonging to the saboteurs:

This major Ukrainian port city is a strategical goal of russian command who set themselves a task to seize all of Ukraine's south, thereby creating a land corridor between the two occupied territories – from Donbas to Transnistria. As russian general Rustam Minnekayev was quoted as saying, control over the south of Ukraine is the main objective for the second stage of so-called "special operation" in Ukraine.

The date was not accidental but picked by russians on purpose. May 2nd is the eighth anniversary of the tragedy in the House of Trade Unions, Odesa. According to the United Nations' report, that day a group of people supporting the idea of "federalization" of Ukraine and consequent separation of Odesa clashed with the "pro-unity" protesters. The violence that sparked that day resulted in forty-two people killed by fire in the House of Trade Unions. For more details, see the report from Matilda Bogner, Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
