Images have appeared in the public domain indicating that during the assault on Avdiivka in October-November, russian occupiers used BMP-1U IFVs, which were stolen from the Georgian army in 2008.
The fighters of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade’s drone strike company, currently engaged in combat on the Avdiivka front, posted a video of the elimination of russian infantry near a disabled BMP-1U infantry fighting vehicle.

For the first time, the fact that russian army are using BMP-1U IFVs, stolen from Georgia in 2008, became known in September from a video frames of russian propagandists.
It is unknown where the occupiers have stored the Georgian BMP-1U until now, and how many vehicles of this type have been adopted by the russians. It is only known that at that time the russians stole 14 BMP-1U units from Georgia.
According to Defense Express, the stolen armored vehicles likely had their cannons replaced, and instead of the Ukrainian ZTM-1 30-mm automatic gun, the russians installed a russian 2A72 gun in the module.
It should be noted that the russians used even rarities like the BTR-90 and BTR-50 for assaults near Avdiivka.
Defense Express suggests that in planning the attack on Avdiivka, the russian army command deliberately aimed to 'sweep up' all remaining equipment at the storage bases.
Thus, counting either on exerting maximum pressure on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces or on incurring its own potential high losses during the assault on the city.
