russia and Uzbekistan are conducting joint training exercises, with a particular focus on unmanned technologies. russians have brought both airborne and ground-based unmanned platforms to the drills

On Wednesday, July 16, the active phase of joint exercises with russia called Hamkorlik-2025 began in Uzbekistan, according to the russian Ministry of Defense. The event runs through July 20, with the official closing ceremony and awards scheduled for the following day. The exercises are taking place at the Termez training ground.

russians say that they are represented at these exercises by units from the 201st Military Base of the Central Military District. Among the participating forces are mountain and assault units, UAV reconnaissance teams, FPV drone operators, and an aviation group flying Mi-24 helicopters.

The purpose of the exercises is to practice joint operations in commanding units during the elimination of illegal armed groups in border areas under desert conditions. Particular emphasis is placed on sharing experience with the Uzbek military regarding the use of various types of drones.

russians emphasize that Muravey reconnaissance and strike drones, PVC-type FPV drones, and a KTZ-type ground-based robotic system were deployed during the exercises.

russian Ministry of Defense stated that russian military demonstrated how reconnaissance and strike drone operators are trained, as well as methods of countering UAVs using electronic warfare and small arms.

It is likely that russia aims to promote its developments to the Uzbek military in this way. In recent years, media reports have repeatedly highlighted russia's plans to establish drone production in Uzbekistan, as well as to use the country to procure drone components in an attempt to circumvent sanctions.

In spring this year, it was reported that russian company Transport of the Future plans to launch drone production in Uzbekistan by the end of this year.

It is worth noting that in 2022, Uzbekistan announced the launch of production of its own Lochin drones, which can be used for both civilian and military purposes. In addition, this country has drones such as the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 and the Chinese Wing Loong 1 in its arsenal.
