In a significant boost to Ukraine’s military capabilities, the Ukrainian government has awarded Rheinmetall, a leading German defense contractor, a contract for the supply of Leopard 1 tanks. This comprehensive package includes 25 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, 5 Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicles and 2 driver training tanks. To enhance Ukraine’s operational readiness, the contract encompasses training, logistics, spare parts, maintenance and other essential support services.
Financed by Germany and valued in the upper-two-digit million-euro range, the delivery of these Leopard 1 tanks is scheduled for 2024. Currently, Rheinmetall’s plants in Unterlüß and Kassel are diligently overhauling and preparing these vehicles for optimal performance.

Rheinmetall’s unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine’s military strength is further demonstrated by its ongoing provision of tactical vehicles. Previously, the Group was entrusted with supplying Ukraine with a total of 80 Marder infantry fighting vehicles. These vehicles have already made a significant impact on the battlefield, proving their effectiveness in ongoing operations.
Rheinmetall stands ready to deliver an additional 20 Marder IFVs upon receiving the corresponding order. Moreover, late 2023 and early 2024 will witness the arrival of 5 Caracal air assault vehicles in Ukraine. Additionally, next year, the Group will provide 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine on behalf of the Dutch and Danish governments.
