Colonel Yuriy Ignat, the speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, comments on statement of the Ministry of Defense of the russian federation about the successful destruction of the Ukrainian Patriot air defense system in Kyiv on May 16.

“Do not worry about the fate of the Patriot. Patriot is a complex of batteries, divisions, a system... Everyone calls it differently, and no one can truly understand what it consists of,” Colonel Yuriy Ignat said.

The speaker explained that division is a command post where the combat crew tracks air targets, receives information about the air situation in their area of responsibility and destroys air targets. It can operate in manual, semi-automatic and automatic modes.
“It is the automatic mode of operation of the system that allows it to shoot down air targets without human intervention, as it was that night,” Colonel Yuriy Ignat said.

Additionally, the Patriot system has a radar that provides information and is located at a distance from the division. It has up to eight launchers, each of which contains four transport-launch containers that are also located at specific distances and enable combat operations, including missile launches.

“That is why it is impossible to destroy the system with the Kinzhal missile. So let everything they talk about remain in the archive of their propaganda,” the speaker of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated.
