Due to its internal political processes, Georgia is in the spotlight. We will not focus on these processes, but will instead talk about the size of the army and weapons this country has, and the estimated number of russian occupation forces in the temporarily occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
According to The Military Balance 2024, the number of Georgian Defense Forces at the beginning of the year was 20,650 serviceman, with a population of almost 5 million people and a defense budget of $507 million for 2024.

The Georgian Land Forces consist of 19,050 soldiers, organized into one special forces brigade, one mechanized brigade, three light infantry brigades, two artillery brigades and one engineer brigade.
They have 100 units of T-72 and 23 T-55 tanks, 46 BMP-2 and 25 BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, 80 Didgori-1/2 and 66 MT-LB wheeled armored vehicles, 44 BTR-70 and BTR-80 armored personnel carriers, as well as 65 Ejder and 10 Cougar armored vehicles. As for the engineering equipment, it is claimed that they have IMR-2 tracked military engineering vehicles in an unspecified number, about 40 D-44 and T-12 artillery guns, Fagot, Konkurs and Javelin ATGMs.

The artillery armament includes 240 artillery systems, including one 2S7 Pion and one 2S19 Msta-S, three towed 2A36 Giatsint-B and 10 Msta-B, 20 units of 2S1 Gvozdika and 13 units of 2S3 Akatsiya, as well as 32 Dana self-propelled artillery systems, 58 D-30 howitzers, as well as 65 units of 120-mm mortars. As for rocket artillery, there are six GradLAR systems, 13 BM-21 Grad and 18 RM-70 multiple rocket launchers.
The army air defense is represented by Spyder-SR and Strela-10 systems as well as Mistral, Strela-2, and Igla MANPADS systems.
Georgian Air Force includes 1,300 servicemen, with three Su-25KM and two Su-25UB aircraft in service (and two more in storage), six An-2 and two Yak-40, six Mi-24, 17 Mi-8 helicopters as well as one UH-1H helicopter, up to two Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missilebattalions, two batteries of Osa-AK surface-to-air missile systems and up to 10 units of Osa-AKM systems.

As for the russian occupation forces in the temporarily occupied territory of Georgia, the guide states the following figures: the total number of russian troops is 4,000 soldiers, including one mechanized brigade and one anti-aircraft missile regiment with S-300PS system in Abkhazia, and one mechanized brigade in South Ossetia.
It should also be noted that troops of the Southern Military District are also looming over Georgia directly from the territory of russia.
