The Ukrainian Navy’s Pivdenny Project 722U A855 training boat is slated to undergo shipyard overhaul

Pivdenny, which is employed by the Navy for purposes of communication, has recently entered the Ocean shipyard for an overhaul.

This is the first order the Ukrainian Navy awarded to this privately-run shipyard.

NIbulon, another private shipyard based in Mykolayiv, in August 2020 won a Navy competition to overhaul the degaussing vessel A811 Balta.

DE note: The Ukrainian Navy in 2020 began introducing the practice of selective tendering for ship MRO contracts, aimed to reduce prices and improve service due to increased competition and a greater involvement of private industries.

Ocean shipyard has been selected to build three warships redesigned for Ukraine’s Navy from the Turkish-developed Ada-Class corvette.

Ocean has recently commenced work to bring back to operational status its drydock facility, including construction of the main entrance gate, this being meant to enable the company to come back to the market for heavy displacement vessels.
