The top commander of the russian Navy was quickly replaced after another ship was destroyed by Ukrainian forces

Chief commander of the russian Navy, Nikolay Yevmenov, was dismissed, multiple russian mass media are reporting with reference to sources in the high-ranking military. The reasons to replace Yevmenov, who had been in this position since May 2019, are not specified although the context speaks for itself: since 2022, the russian naval fleet in the Black Sea has not fulfilled its main task, and suffered record-high losses.

In particular, the latest big success for Ukraine was the destruction of Sergei Kotov, the newest Project 22160 ship launched just in 2022, which was attacked by kamikaze drones and sank in immediate proximity to the heavily fortified Crimean Bridge, with air defenses, combat dolphins, and more.

In Yevmenov's stead, his successor Aleksandr Moiseyev will try to turn the tide as the new commander of the Navy, russian media report. For now, he hasn't been inducted yet and remains in the status of an acting commander.

Moiseyev (born in 1962) in some way follows his predecessor's footsteps: when Evmenov was promoted from commander of the Northern Fleet in 2019, Moiseyev got his seat. Before that, in 2018-2019, he commanded the Black Sea Fleet of the russian federation, even though his career started in the Northern Fleet.

Just like his predecessor, Moiseyev is a submariner, he was in charge of the K-407 Novomoskovsk strategic submarine, then in 2003 he began to climb the ladder from the position of deputy commander of a submarine squadron, and by 2012 he became the commander of the submarine forces of the Northern Fleet. By 2020, Moiseyev attained the rank of admiral.
