Fighters from the Hroza platoon destroyed one of russia's newest EW systems designed to suppress Ukrainian reconnaissance and strike drones, restoring UAV effectiveness in their sector

Fighters from the Hroza platoon of the Freedom of russia Legion have located and destroyed one of russia's newest electronic warfare systems, the Chernyi Glaz, designed to suppress Ukrainian drones. The unit announced the successful strike in an official statement on its social media channels.

According to the Freedom of russia Legion, the Chernyi Glaz system is a cutting-edge russian development capable of emitting powerful signals in the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency bands. These frequencies are widely used by commercial and military-grade drones, including Ukrainian reconnaissance Mavik quadcopters and FPV strike UAVs. The system's jamming capabilities allowed it to disrupt both surveillance operations and kamikaze drone attacks.

The Freedom of russia Legion reported that finding the system required careful reconnaissance due to its mobility and camouflage. Once located, a strike UAV from the Hroza platoon was deployed. In a post laced with irony, the fighters noted that the drone "delicately dismantled" the EW system, ensuring its destruction.

Following the strike, the unit stated, "Finally, the sky in our sector of responsibility is clear again."

The removal of Chernyi Glaz system from the battlefield is likely to immediately improve the effectiveness of Ukrainian and allied drone operations in the area.

The Chernyi Glaz EW system represents a recent trend in russia's adaptation to Ukraine's growing use of drones. By targeting common control and video transmission frequencies, such systems aim to degrade Ukraine's intelligence-gathering and precision strike capabilities. However, their destruction not only restores operational capacity but also exposes vulnerabilities in russia's attempts to counter UAV warfare.

As Defense Express previously reported, a newly unveiled russian Chernyi Glaz electronic warfare system has rapidly become a frontline threat in Ukraine, capable of severing FPV drone control up to 2-4 km away. Based on the Shtora EW platform, this suitcase-sized jammer features directional antennas covering multiple frequency bands and remote operation up to 300 m. What makes it particularly dangerous is not just its technical capabilities, but its accelerating mass production and mounting appearances across the front, prompting Ukrainian forces to prioritize its neutralization.
