Joint Ukrainian forces managed to regain control over several settlements for a while but were forced to retreat on June 25, as reported by Ukrainian officials. The withdrawal was caused by the russian tactics of full artillery obliteration of cities.

About 90% of the city's buildings were ruined to the ground, according to local administration official Serhii Haidai.

The other reason is to avoid encirclement, as stated in the General Staff’s report of June 25.

As of today, June 29, the neighboring city Lysychansk is fought for, with russian continuous attempts to cut it off a single supply route to Bakhmut.
