In 2022, the Federal Government approved the supply of weapons to other countries for a total cost of 8.35 billion euros, in particular for Ukraine - 2.24 billion euros. Taking the total amount, this is the second largest volume of weapons exports for Germany in the last 30 years. The biggest result was in 2021 – 9.35 billion euros in total concluded contracts for the sale of weapons, as Spiegel reports.
The article says that the list of 2.24 billion euros worth of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine includes, in particular, 30 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, 14 PzH 2000 self-propelled guns, five Mars II systems and one Iris-T SLM SAM complexes.

According to Germany’s statistics, in the current year Ukraine received the most export weapons from Berlin. For example, the indicator for the Netherlands is 1.83 billion euros, for the USA it’s 863 million euros, for Great Britain 453 million euros, for Hungary 249 million euros.
But the Spiegel journalists separately clarify that the government includes both actually completed deliveries and only approved contracts that have yet to be fulfilled in Germany's arms export statistics. For example, most part of the €9.35 billion in 2021 arms sales comes from a €4.4 billion order package for Egypt, which includes frigates and air defense systems, and which has yet to actually be fulfilled.
Alternatively, the supply of components for the joint production of weapons with other countries may also be included in the statistics. For example, the result of almost 1 billion euros for Great Britain can be explained by a joint project to produce Boxer wheeled infantry fighting vehicles for the British army.
In the end, when the German Government lists the nomenclature of the already allocated aid package for Ukraine, it includes not only the equipment and weapons actually delivered, but also the weapons and ammunition that are still being manufactured and will be delivered later.
All these nuances must be taken into account when it comes to the assessment of the military aid from Germany actually transferred to the disposal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
