16:25 Russian army personnel reserves have been exhausted

Russia has already exhausted reserves of combat-capable battalion-tactical groups, stated Vadym Skibitskyi, the representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine on the air of a national TV marathon. According to him, to mitigate this lack of personnel, russia continues covert mobilization. New units of the occupying forces are being formed of conscripts and mobilization resources and then sent to the Ukrainian territory. However, such troops are largely ineffective.

"We actually understand that today the russian federation has exhausted the resources of the most combat capable battalion tactical groups," said the representative of the military intelligence of Ukraine. "Although it still has enough reserves to enter the territory of Ukraine."

Vadym Skibitskyi said the most depressed morale is observed among the forcibly mobilized servicemen of the 1st and 2nd Army Corps from the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

"Untrained personnel, who have, essentially, no combat experience, are now heading to the most important directions".

"The hottest spot is still the Izium direction. Our Armed Forces are on the counter-offensive. The enemy is retreating in some directions. This is the result of the Ukrainian warriors' character," said the official in his report on social media.

While on retreat, russians leave explosives "absolutely everywhere", according to Synyehubov, including furniture in people's homes. The demining works are underway. He urged evacuated citizens to postpone returning to their homes until they are completely safe.

The water utility workers have received diving equipment and make futile attempts to repair breaches in the basements. The residents still have little access to drinking water. Majority of Mariupol residents have to walk a long way to water delivery points (barrels or water tanks), but there is not enough water there”.

"About 150,000-170,000 Mariupol residents remain hostages of the occupying power and have almost no chance to flee to Ukraine," the adviser to Mariupol mayor added.

Mariupol experiences one of the biggest humanitarian catastrophes provoked by Russian aggression. The city has no normal energy, water, and gas supply. The Mariupol mayor said that up to 20,000 civilians had died in the city since the Russian invasion.

Scholz didnʼt see Moscowʼs desire to change its position on Ukraine. Though itʼs obvious that Russia has not achieved any of the goals set at the beginning of the war.

The only way out for Putin is to negotiate with Ukraine. This may affect the lifting of sanctions.

  • In addition, russian enemy is trying to improve the tactical situation in the areas of Komyshuvakha, Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka and Pobeda. It is not successful.
  • In the city of Mariupol, russian enemy continues to blockade our units near the Azovstal plant. Inflicts massive artillery and air strikes.
  • In the Zaporizhiz direction, in order to maintain the occupied territory, there are preparatory measures for the construction of a multi-tiered defence by the occupiers.
  • The situation in the South Buh area has not changed significantly. The enemy continues to shell the positions of our troops with mortars and artillery.

07:15 Russia has entered the third phase of a full-scale war in Ukraine and is now preparing for a long battle. This was announced on Friday, May 13, on the air of the all-Ukrainian telethon by the adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Viktor Andrusiv.

The adviser noted that the first phase was an attempt to capture the whole of Ukraine "in a few days", the second was to encircle Ukraine’s Defense Forces in the country’s east.

"They had plotted to make one of such encirclements especially large, cutting us off from Pavlohrad, another one was supposed to include Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, and now they have a very small encirclement on the table. In fact, it’s Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk, but they’re failing to do that, too," Andrusiv stressed.

The official noted that the occupiers have now moved on to the third phase of the war as they are beginning to prepare for holding the ground they have managed to gain.

"This indicates that they have decided to turn the war into a very long one ... They hope that the crises caused by the war will put the West at the negotiating table, and that the West will try to swap us for something," the adviser to the minister of interior said.

06:30 The German Security Council is discussing the supply of ten Diehl IRIS-T SLM air defense systems to Ukraine. This was reported by Bild citing sources in the German government.

The range of IRIS-T SLM system is 40 km, while its operating altitude is 20 km. With the help of these air defense systems, the forces can repel the attacks of combat aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones.

If the supply is approved by the German Security Council, Ukraine may receive the first complexes in November 2022. It will take three to four years to produce all ten complexes requested by Ukraine. Ukrainian soldiers will have to undergo appropriate training in Germany.

It should be recalled that on April 28, the Bundestag approved the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine. On May 9, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Russia's aggression leaves Germany no choice but to supply weapons to Ukraine.

In the coming days, Ukrainian artillerymen will be trained to handle PzH 2000 tank howitzers, which Germany and the Netherlands plan to deliver to Kyiv.

00:45 US sending 10,500 new troops to Europe for new rotation.

The US is sending 10,500 new troops to Europe to replace soldiers who were earlier deployed, the Pentagon’s spokesperson John Kirby also announced in his briefing today, The Guardian reports. He said the deployments were “one for one unit replacements” and that the turnovers would happen in the coming weeks and into the summer: “It will be a rotation over time.”

Kirby explained: “These are not permanent moves. These moves are designed to respond to the current security environment. Moreover these forces are not going to fight in Ukraine. They are going to support the robust defense of Nato allies.”

00:30 Azovstal defenders call on Western leaders to help with evacuation of the wounded.

Russian troops continue to massively bombard the Mariupol-based Azovstal plant with planes. Many Ukrainian defenders, who have been seriously wounded, are remaining within the plant and need to be urgently evacuated.

The relevant statement was made by Azov Regiment Deputy Commander Captain Sviatoslav Palamar at a special panel session during the Kyiv Security Forum, Ukrinform reports.

“The enemy is cynical; the enemy does not follow any international conventions. The enemy does not adhere to the Geneva Conventions. Knowing that about 600 wounded fighters are remaining within the Azovstal plant, they continue to drop bombs on a military hospital. This way, as usually, they violate all international regulations,” Palamar said.

Palamar called on Western leaders to help with the evacuation of the wounded.

“I would like to address all representatives of this conference, thank you once again, and say that, perhaps, such a great nation and representatives of such a great nation, the United States of America, would help us to evacuate our wounded fighters,” Palamar stressed.

Palamar asked them to make every effort, if possible, to help with the extraction procedure for the Ukrainian garrison. In his words, the courage of Mariupol defenders prevented the enemy from advancing.

“Believe me, if we had not done this, this horde would have gone farther on. They would have seized other areas, advanced deep into the territory of Ukraine, and the front line would have looked differently now,” Palamar added.
