For the fourth day straight, russia have been scrambling to restore its tax system after a crippling cyberattack. According to the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, the attack will paralyze the Federal Tax Service for at least a month, if not longer.

The attack infiltrated all servers with malicious software, effectively destroying the entire database and its backups, making full restoration impossible.

One key target was Office.ed-it.ru, a russian IT company responsible for maintaining the Federal Tax Service’s infrastructure. This attack has severed all communication between the central office in Moscow, 2,300 regional offices and even the temporarily occupied Crimea, leaving the entire system in disarray.

“As a result of two cyberattacks, configuration files have been completely destroyed,” the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine stated, emphasizing the severity of the damage. This essentially translates to a total wipeout of the tax database and its backup copies.

The impact on the russian economy will be substantial, causing difficulties for businesses in filing taxes and hindering the government’s ability to collect crucial revenue.
