​Border guards of Ukraine and Estonia to hold joint exercises in the Baltic Sea

Head of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service Serhii Deineko and Director General of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board Elmar Vaher held an online meeting to discuss joint exercises in the Baltic Sea, the press service of Ukraine’s State Border Guard Service reports

During the meeting, active cooperation between the border agencies of both countries was noted. In particular, the parties agreed to exchange experience in the field of border protection, risk analysis and information exchange, trainings of Maritime Guard units and cooperation of operational staff.

Deineko thanked for the initiative and readiness of the Estonian side to strengthen the capacity of the Maritime Guard of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine by conducting a series of trainings and internships in the Baltic Sea.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine noted that joint exercises, scheduled for the summer 2020, were postponed to next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the online meeting, the parties agreed to sign a Cooperation Development Plan for 2021-2022, as well as to intensify the exchange of information on possible channels of illegal migration and drug trafficking.
