Ukrainian Railways Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) compiled a list of rolling stock and other equipment and hopes to get it from Ukraine’s foreign partners. In particular, it includes 40 locomotives manufactured by the American company Wabtec, said the chairman of the board of the railway company Oleksandr Kamyshyn.

This was reported by CFTS citing Rail Insider.

“We need to develop our partnership with Western allies. We are talking about the Marshall Plan for UZ, Lend-Lease… We have formed a large list. Importantly, there is a request for 40 locomotives worth $250 million, engines for the modernization of our other locomotives, special vehicles for infrastructure restoration and more", he said. Alexander Kamyshin also added that this list should be approved by the working group.

The issue of obtaining 40 units of the US locomotives has been raised by Ukrainian Railways “Ukrzaliznytsia” more than once. In particular, in 2021 the company noted that this number will completely cover the need for UZ in diesel locomotives.
Before the war, UZ operated 30 TE33AS locomotives from the US company GE Transportation (now Wabtec).
