Europe’s leading robotics and autonomous systems developer Milrem Robotics and the Ukrainian Defense Industry (Ukroboronprom) which consolidates national defense industry companies signed an agreement to start forging next-generation multi-domain robotic defense systems.

This was reported by the company’s press service.

The agreement was signed during the First Defense Industries Forum (DFNC1), which took place in Kyiv on September 29, as noted by Milrem Robotics.

As a reminder, the forum resulted in the signing of 20 agreements and memoranda on the production of drones, repair and production of armored vehicles, and ammunition.

As noted by Milrem Robotics, the first step under the agreement is strategic cooperation to identify Ukraine’s needs and options for using robotic systems that can enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Later, the Estonian company will integrate the combat experience of Ukrainian military into the existing Milrem Robotics systems and create new products.

Ukrainian defense companies will also be involved to integrate their technologies, such as weapons systems, electronic warfare and demining equipment, with Milrem robots to meet the requirements of the armed forces.

In addition, the parties are considering localizing the production of robotic platforms developed by Milrem Robotics in Ukraine.

These are systems based on the THeMIS multi-purpose platform, including the combat THeMIS Combat armed with a machine gun module, the Combat Engineering version adapted for mine detection and demining, as well as unmanned logistics vehicles and their modified CASEVAC versions for evacuating the wounded.

Reminder that Ukraine already has THeMIS robotic platforms in its arsenal — the Estonian company specifies that they have supplied 15 units of this type of equipment to Kyiv.

Also worth noting is that, in addition to the THeMIS platform, the Estonian company also has the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV) in its portfolio. The Type-X Combat can be outfitted with several 25 mm to 50 mm autocannons or a barrage ammunition launcher.

It can be utilized to localize and engage lower range targets and provide flanking support. The Type-X is ideal for performing missions in dangerous situations, while keeping the required number of warfighters out of harm’s way.
