The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has directly contracted the German defense giant Rheinmetall for 155-mm artillery ammunition.
The agreement was signed between the Defense Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and Rheinmetall without intermediaries and is distinguished by the fact that the delivery is scheduled for the first half of 2025.

Such a deadline for the order fulfillment directly indicates that the ammunition will be supplied straight from the assembly line as it is produced. At the same time, the volume and price of the contract remain undisclosed. Rheinmetall also did not disclose the details of this agreement.
The type ofammunition has not been announced, but currently the most popular 155-mm artillery high-explosive fragmentation shells by Rheinmetall are DM121, as well as L15, which are produced at the Spanish facilities of Expal, which belongs to the German company. All of these ammunition have already been supplied to Ukraine many times.
It should be noted that this is the second known direct contract between Rheinmetall and the Ukrainian defense ministry. The other day the German company announced an agreement on propelling (explosive) charges for 155-mm artillery ammunition for 9 million euros. The quantity was outlined within "tens of thousands", and the deadline was as short as possible - in January 2025, that is, in 1.5 months.
In general, cooperation with Rheinmetall is gradually gaining momentum. For example, Rheinmetall is building four defense plants, one of which is for the production of ammunition, and the second - in the field of armored vehicles, and is due to produce the first of the latest Lynx infantry fighting vehicles this year.
Rheinmetall also performs contracts in the interests of Ukraine, but receives contracts from the German government, which thereby provides assistance with weapons. For example, this week Rheinmetall announced that it will supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 20 additional Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles. Earlier Rheinmetall revealed which weapon had shown the greatest success in Ukraine’s combat zones.
