Taiwan expects to start receiving long-awaited new F-16V Viper fighters from the U.S this year, in 2026. This is despite the fact that the order contract was signed in 2019, seven years ago.
As Reuters writes, the Taiwanese defense minister states this. It's emphasized that aircraft production is running at full capacity in two shifts, employing several hundred Lockheed Martin specialists.

It's also noted that currently there are no bottlenecks in the production process regarding components or workers. All this information was announced after high-ranking Taiwanese air force and defense ministry officials visited fighter manufacturing facilities in the U.S.
Defense Express notes that this start corresponds to the delivery timelines named by the American side last year for new F-16Vs. However, delivery of the entire order by the end of 2026 was mentioned then, which expectedly raised doubts.

Taiwan signed a contract for 66 F-16V Vipers in 2019 with delivery timelines in 2023-2024. Due to delays, they even wanted to seek compensation. The new aircraft were intended to complement 139 old aircraft upgraded to this level.
At the same time, a 7-year wait for new F-16s is not so unexpected. Slovakia and Bulgaria ordered fighters in 2018 and 2019, but as a result started receiving them only in 2024 and 2025. Supply chain problems and qualified workers are cited as reasons for delays.

If Taiwanese officials' words are true, then Lockheed Martin has managed to overcome difficulties and reach normal capabilities. Next buyers may not have to wait so long.
Currently, Slovakia wants to order four more F-16Vs. A decision has also been made in Peru, where this choice will go instead of Gripen. American aircraft manufacturing will most likely not be left without orders for fully established production.
