The Italian Armed Forces have held a formal ceremony marking the acceptance of the first four Lynx KF41 infantry fighting vehicles, signaling the start of deliveries under Italy's large-scale A2CS rearmament program. The ceremony is part of a broader plan that envisions the procurement of more than 1,000 Lynx IFVs and fulfills the initial phase of a firm contract for the first batch of 21 vehicles.
The handover was conducted on behalf of Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles, a German-Italian joint venture responsible for supplying the vehicles and establishing localized production in Italy. The first four Lynx IFVs were transferred to the Italian Armed Forces' Multifuncional Experimentation Center (Ce.Poli.Spe) in Montelibretti, east of Rome, where they will be used for testing and evaluation.

According to Rheinmetall, these initial vehicles are delivered in the standard configuration equipped with the Lance 30 mm turret. However, all subsequent Lynx IFVs within the first production batch will be fitted with Leonardo's Hitfist turret, reflecting Italy's emphasis on domestic industrial participation and system integration.
It is worth noting that at least one Lynx physically arrived in Italy as early as mid-December 2025, meaning the exact number of vehicles currently in the country, four or possibly five, remains somewhat unclear. Nevertheless, this detail is largely symbolic when viewed against the scale of the overall program. More important is the pace at which the contract has begun to be executed, given that the firm agreement for the first 21 vehicles was signed only in early November 2025.
Despite the early ceremonial delivery, the full completion of the first batch is not expected until 2027. The declared delivery schedule includes ten vehicles in 2026 and six more in 2027, underscoring that the Lynx program is structured as a long-term, phased effort rather than a rapid mass delivery.

In total, Italy's Lynx procurement plan extends through 2040 and calls for 1,050 infantry fighting vehicles, alongside 272 KF51 Panther main battle tanks. The overall value of the program is estimated at close to €20 billion, with approximately €15 billion allocated specifically for Lynx IFVs. This scale places the Italian program among the largest armored vehicle modernization efforts in Europe.
These figures are also highly relevant for Ukraine, which has previously stated its intention to field around 1,000 new infantry fighting vehicles. The Lynx is currently viewed as a leading candidate for such a capability. In December 2025, Germany allocated funding and signed a firm contract worth tens of millions of euros for an initial experimental batch of Lynx IFVs for Ukraine.
As in Italy, and previously in Hungary, Rheinmetall plans to localize Lynx production in Ukraine. However, the ultimate scope of such deliveries will depend heavily on available financial resources for Ukrainian defense procurement. Rheinmetall has so far assessed the Ukrainian market potential at around 300 IFVs, indicating both significant interest and clear budgetary constraints.
