Many from around world want role of new U.S. Army artillery systems, Israeli elbit plays biggest Trump card: U.S. Production

Israeli Elbit Systems is trying to gain as many chances as possible for victory in the competition for new SPGs for the U.S. They position their 155mm SIGMA as a fully 100% American product.

The company's local division, Elbit Systems America, published a video from its own production facilities in Charleston, South Carolina. It's emphasized that this is not just assembly, but full manufacturing with completely local supply chains.

Moreover, Elbit confidently states that SIGMA is currently the only wheeled 155mm SPG produced in the U.S. This literally matches competition requirements, which demand systems coming straight off the assembly line, as well as having localization.

Actually, some open sources indicate that the self-propelled howitzer itself and its ROEM variant for Israeli military are in principle manufactured at the mentioned American facility. This can explain the presence of active work at the factory from the video.

Indeed, as a result SIGMA gains an interesting advantage over its other competitors, such as Archer, CAESAR, as well as RCH 155, whose production still needs to be localized in the U.S. This can significantly increase chances with Americans who want to raise their own industry.

However, on the other hand, the Israeli SPG is quite heavy, as it can hold up to 40 rounds and is fully automated. An Oshkosh with 10x10 wheel formula is used as the chassis, which is larger than typical analogs.

It may therefore be somewhat oversized for replacing towed M777s, but will still fit the role of successor to the aging M109. Actually, it's entering service with the Israel Defense Forces instead of the latter.

The first operational SIGMA SPG was delivered to Israeli military in December 2025. However, earlier there were reports about its use, which most likely concerned prototypes or experimental operation.
