In March 2025, a noticeable rise in railway fires has emerged as a critical tactic in the ongoing struggle against military supply lines. Reports indicate that deliberate acts of arson have increasingly targeted key rail infrastructure in regions essential to sustaining russian military logistics, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine reports.
Moscow, Samara, and Tver regions experienced significant disruptions as six units of traction rolling stock were destroyed by fire. These trains are pivotal in transporting essential resources for the operations of the russian invasion forces.

Meanwhile, in the Mari El Republic, along with the Stavropol and Krasnoyarsk territories, efforts appear to have extended to the railway’s signaling and safety infrastructure. A total of nine railway signaling, interlocking, and blocking devices were damaged during the same period.
The disruptions were not limited to locomotives and signaling equipment. In the Moscow region, authorities noted further damage when both a power transformer and a fuel tank car were burned out.
These incidents underscore an escalating pattern targeting not only the rolling stock but also the critical energy and fuel supply mechanisms that keep operations running.
These coordinated acts of sabotage are part of a broader strategy aimed at hindering the supply of ammunition and military equipment to russian forces. By deliberately setting rail assets ablaze and damaging control devices, the sabotage campaign seeks to disrupt logistical operations and slow down the flow of vital supplies to the frontlines.
