If Israel buys thousands of JLTVs, it marks surprising shift from Humvees, which previously dominated attention

The Trump administration is seeking Congressional approval to sell Israel $6.4 billion in weapons and equipment amid the expansion of IDF operations against Hamas in Gaza and growing concern among Democrats about the situation.

According to Reuters, citing sources, the bulk of the package includes 30 Apache attack helicopters worth $3.8 billion, 3,250 infantry assault vehicles priced at $1.9 billion, and an additional $750 million for spare parts and power systems for armored vehicles.

Some sources refer to these as infantry fighting vehicles, but given the unit cost of around $584,600, it is far more likely that the sale involves JLTV armored vehicles rather than traditional IFVs. Reuters itself summarizes the potential sale as 30 attack helicopters and 3,250 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, though the report does not explicitly name JLTVs in the text.

Interestingly, if the U.S. is indeed planning to sell JLTVs to Israel, it marks an unexpected shift from previous focus on Humvees.

Earlier this year, Israel signed a $150 million contract with AM General LLC for HMMWVs, which aligned with its existing fleet of thousands of these vehicles. The JLTV purchase suggests that, despite higher costs, the IDF now values the enhanced protection and capabilities of JLTVs.

This potential sale highlights Israel's ongoing efforts to modernize its ground forces amid current operations.

Previously, Defense Express reported that Serbia secretly acquired the PULS rocket system from Israel, featuring missiles with a range of 300 km.
