The issue of practical implementation of the Memorandum of Intent between the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on cooperation in development and capacity building of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was discussed today in London by Defence Ministers Andrii Taran and Ben Wallace.

— We assessed the choice of the Royal Naval Base “Portsmouth” as a very precise place for the signing ceremony of the memorandum. I hope that one of our next contracts with you will be signed on the newly built base of the Ukrainian Navy, — noted Andrii Taran during a meeting with Ben Wallace.

Ukraine and the United Kingdom agreed to supply modern types of military equipment and the latest high-precision armament, to establish production of certain types of military products in Ukraine, as well as to build facilities for the Ukrainian Navy.

According to the Minister of Defence, the Ukrainian side has emphasized the proposal that modern, compatible with NATO standards missile boats be created in Ukraine at the facilities of domestic enterprises.

Among other things, a proposal was made to launch a joint Ukrainian-British project to create a missile boat, which would take into account the wishes of the Ukrainian military. To this end, a visit of British experts is expected in the near future to hold consultations at the expert level in Ukraine.

Andrii Taran also noted that it is not only about ships, but also about infrastructure. Also maximally adapted to interact with the Alliance’s naval powers. This will increase Ukraine’s combat potential in the Black and Azov Seas.

— Winston Churchill at the beginning of the last century switched the fleet from coal to fuel. Nowadays, a great naval power — Great Britain will contribute to the revival of the Ukrainian Navy. The intentions have been formalized — it’s time to start implementing the agreements, — summed up the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Andrii Taran.
