Such detachments are likely to be equipped according to the principle “all convicts separately from others”

Earlier, Defense Express reported about russian army decision to review the tactics and create reinforced assault battalions: it involves keeping armored vehicles further from the frontlines and the appearance of flexible "assault squads", consisting of 2-3 companies, control units, artillery support, as well as various other groups of tanks, reconnaissance, EW, air defense, drones, etc.

The Tatarigami_UA Twitter account posted detailed information about this tactic, and now has published interesting information about russian assault companies based on a document called "Regulations on assault companies "Z" of the 8th general army".

About assault detachments

"Storm Unit "Z" is defined in the document as "an integrated tactical military unit, which has high independence and is temporarily created outside the regular number of units of army corps for immediate (operational) use in the performance of particularly complex combat tasks."

As noted, the document also specifies which units need to be created for these "Z storm detachments": it refers to units of the 1st Army Corps, motorized rifle and tank regiments of the 150th motorized rifle division, as well as individual motorized rifle brigades.

The composition of these assault detachments has a flexible structure that can change depending on the task it performs. In general, such a unit should have up to 100 people in its composition. The main weapons are small arms and grenade launchers.

It should be noted separately that the training and coordination of such assault companies units from 10 to 15 days in three stages:

As it is noted, they want to involve prisoners in such assault companies, but there will be special rules for their participation, in particular, "prohibition of mixed composition of companies", hinting that convicts should be distributed separately.

The equipping of units with such assault brigades has already begun and takes place in three stages:

  • the first stage is from October 24, 2022 to February 15, 2023 in subdivisions 1 AK
