Between 2023 and mid-2024, Ukraine procured 155 mm shells and 120 mm artillery mines from Spain worth €200 million. These munitions were supplied by local defense manufacturers, including Rheinmetall Expal Munitions and Granada Ammunition Factory (FMG).
Alongside these purchases, Spain also provided military aid to Ukraine free of charge. According to Infodefensa, Ukraine’s total military acquisitions from Spain in this period amounted to €273 million, with artillery ammunition comprising 70% of the total.

In 2023, under direct commercial contracts, Ukraine received 55,950 rounds of 155 mm shells (€69.1 million), 21,520 rounds of 120 mm artillery mines (€10.6 million), and 11 missiles (€16.9 million). During the first half of 2024, Spanish defense companies supplied 89,200 rounds of 155 mm shells (€118.7 million) and 23,000 rounds of 120 mm artillery mines. Notably, all direct commercial sales from Spain to Ukraine in early 2024 consisted exclusively of artillery ammunition.

While the report does not confirm whether similar deliveries occurred in the latter half of 2024, it highlights that Ukraine’s purchases accounted for nearly 50% of Spain’s total artillery ammunition production capacity. However, despite these significant transactions, Ukraine’s direct commercial acquisitions made up only 4% of Spain’s total defense exports in 2023, which reached €3.7 billion. In the first half of 2024, Spain’s overall defense exports totaled €1.9 billion.
