Despite ongoing diplomatic appeals for de-escalation, the russian federation has intensified its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, warned today. According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, active combat continues along an approximately 1,100-kilometer front, where russian forces have shifted to a strategy of attrition, hoping to wear down Ukrainian defenders through sheer numbers and relentless pressure.
"We face a combined enemy grouping of up to 640,000 personnel. Despite this, our soldiers are conducting an effective defensive operation, inflicting significant losses on the invaders," Oleksandr Syrskyi stated.

He emphasized that, although outmanned, Ukrainian troops have repeatedly thwarted russian advances, demonstrating both resilience and tactical ingenuity in fortifying key positions and mounting local counterattacks.

By deploying massed infantry and heavy artillery along a sprawling front, russia hopes to fracture Ukraine's defenses through attritional battles. Yet, Ukrainian forces, bolstered by Western military aid and increasingly sophisticated defensive systems, continue to hold the line.

As Defense Express previously reported, russian forces seized just 200 square kilometers in April, marking one of the slowest months of territorial gains since June 2024.
