russian Forpost-R reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial vehicle (an unlicensed variant of Israeli Searcher II) received an upgrade. Defense Express tells about what the enemy improved in its UAV

Representatives of the russian Ural Civil Aviation Plant (Ural'skiy Zavod Grazhdanskoy Aviatsii, UZGA) at the Dubai Airshow 2025 exhibition stated that their Forpost-R reconnaissance and strike UAV demonstrates an increased level of efficiency after recent upgrade.

It is difficult to verify this statement, but the russians have essentially revealed for the first time the details of the modernization of the Forpost-R UAV, which the russian occupation army uses during the war against Ukraine.

In particular, the russians say that the Forpost-R UAV got a modified wing design, as well as a tail fin as part of the improvement.

When producing this UAV in russia, they abandoned the metal frame and instead used an all-composite power caisson too – in order to reduce the number of joints and fasteners.

As a result, the enemy claims that now the Forpost-R can carry a larger payload, but specific data on tactical and technical characteristics are not disclosed.

Joint-stock company "Ural Civil Aviation Plant" is a russian aircraft manufacturing and repair enterprise. In addition to manufacturing and repairing aircraft and aviation components, the plant assembles and develops Forpost and Altair (Altius) unmanned aerial vehicles for the russian armed forces. It is part of Technodinamika JSC, a holding company of the russian state corporation Rostec.
