Retired U.S. General defends the Abrams tank after Ukrainian reports of issues

Retired Lieutenant General Mark Hertling, who has extensive experience with Abrams tanks, has refuted claims by Ukrainian soldiers regarding the Abrams tanks’ alleged poor performance in field conditions in Ukraine.

Mark Hertling emphasized that the M1 Abrams tank was specifically designed for the European theater, with local conditions in mind. He attributed the frequent technical problems reported by Ukrainian soldiers to insufficient crew training and improper maintenance.

Additionally, he addressed an incident reported by Ukrainian tankers, in which they were unable to destroy a building after firing 17 shells. Mark Hertling explained that the issue stemmed from using the wrong type of ammunition.
