Ukrainian 28th Mechanized Brigade Gets New Weapon: Kurt & Company Unveils Robotic Dog

Ukrainian military is not revealing all the secrets about their robotic dog but is giving a glimpse into how this weapon can be used and what their future plans are in this area

Recently, an intriguing video appeared online showing fighters of the Kurt & Company unit of the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade using an unusual and interesting weapon—a robotic dog—on the battlefield. ArmyTV spoke with the unit commander with the call sign Kurt, who provided several details about this area of work.

"The main idea is to preserve the lives of soldiers. We considered many options and settled on the robotic dog for now because, as the unit commander, my priority is to ensure that my personnel stay safe," said Kurt about their new weapon.

The main requirements for such a system are that the "dog" should be able to carry as much weight as possible, provide a clear image from the cameras, and allow the operator to remain in a safe location—such as a basement or a position where the enemy cannot target the soldier—during its operation.

However, the robot cannot be immediately deployed into combat—overall, the idea was developed and refined for about a year. As of today, it is 70% ready: "Currently, some details are being fine-tuned and refined, and the robot will be used as a multifunctional weapon for various tasks."

Such a robotic dog can be employed in various missions, as the military notes—observation, infantry support, evacuation of the wounded, ammunition delivery, and as a kamikaze.

"It is a highly effective observer and sapper. It functions like a real dog, but as an electronic device—all its capabilities can be utilized for military purposes. I won't disclose other details at this time because we want to achieve results and surprise the enemy," Kurt said.

"The plan is to deploy an entire army of such dogs to cover gaps that we currently cannot address in specific areas," Kurt noted. "The unit is now expecting a whole batch of these robotic dogs."
