Ukraine's Ministry of Defense has completed the development of Firefly, a new precision-guided munition designed for bomber drones, marking another step in the country's effort to expand its domestically produced precision-strike capabilities. Following successful testing, the system is now preparing for serial production.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Firefly unit has successfully passed all required trials, demonstrating the performance needed for operational deployment. The weapon is intended to provide Ukrainian forces with a highly accurate stand-off strike capability while reducing risks to drone operators and aircraft.

The guided munition is designed to operate from altitudes of up to 800 meters. After being released from a drone, Firefly unit autonomously calculates its optimal flight path and continuously adjusts its trajectory throughout the descent, allowing it to accurately engage designated targets.
A key feature of the system is its ability to maintain precision even in contested electromagnetic environments. The Ministry says Firefly munition can correct its flight despite enemy electronic warfare measures, addressing one of the major challenges facing modern drone-guided munitions on the battlefield.
The weapon is specifically intended to destroy fortified positions, including bunkers, dugouts, defensive fortifications, and other protected military infrastructure. By allowing the carrier drone to release the munition from a safer distance, Firefly increases survivability while extending the effectiveness of Ukrainian strike operations.
During development, the munition was integrated and tested on several of Ukraine's principal bomber drone platforms. According to the Ministry, the trials confirmed compatibility and combat effectiveness, clearing the system for large-scale manufacturing.
